Teachers' Note
Fourth and fifth grades have begun the year with a bang. We are excited about this year and all the new things we are learning. We are settled into our daily schedules which are filled with support and learning.
In Reading, fourth grade has been working in the theme “Journeys.” Fifth grade has been working in the theme “Nature’s Fury.” We have been working on our comprehension skills to improve our understanding. We have also been working on spelling and vocabulary. This will also help us in having success this year.
In Math, fifth grade has been learning about factors, prime and composite numbers, algebraic expressions and equations, area formulas, and order of operations. Fourth grade has been learning mostly the same just at a different level. We are also learning our multiplication facts through 12.
In Social Studies the fourth grade is learning about California’s history. We learn about the gold rush, the missions, and the exploration of California. In fifth grade, we are learning about the Native Peoples of North America. We are also learning about the exploration and colonization of North America and the establishment of the 13 colonies.
In Science we are learning about electricity, magnetism, and rocks in fourth grade, and weather in fifth grade. Specifically, about how air moves, what causes weather, and how forecasts are made.
We are excited about this year and looking forward to improving our understanding. We still have a way to go, but we’ll get there successfully.
