Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year. I'm Ms. Lopez and I teach 6th grade Language Arts and Ancient Civilizations. In Language Arts, we will be focusing on a variety of topics, such as, reading and responding to grade level fiction and non-fiction, multi-genre writing, and listening and speaking skills to communicate ideas and ask probing questions. In Ancient Civilizations, we will focus on the geography, social structures, economic structures, belief systems, and political structures. We will study the following civilizations: Early Man, Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt/Kush/Nubia, Hebrews, China, India, Greece, and Rome. 

Planners and Binders
Planners and binders have been provided to all students. It is necessary for your child to bring them in order to be organized and to use as a means of communication between you and myself. Please check them daily and sign them on Thursday nights. We will be checking student planners on Friday for your signature.

Homework
Every night your child should be reading at least 30 minutes and if you have internet access, work on Study Island for 30 minutes.

AVID
