The focus of this French I course is to teach the students the necessary skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening to attain communicative proficiency in the French language.

After a successful completion of the class, the student will be able to understand and respond to: greetings, introductions and simple conversations. He/she will be able to make requests, express likes and dislikes and obtain information. He/she will be able to communicate effectively in a limited setting with some hesitation and errors. This will not hinder comprehension.

The course objective is to develop literacy and fluency in French while learning about the Francophone world and its culture.

He/she will be able to make requests, express their needs, understand and express important ideas and some detail, describe and compare, use and understand expressions indicating emotion. He/she will be able to demonstrate increasing fluency and control of vocabulary, communicate effectively with some pattern of error, which may interfere slightly with full comprehension, understand oral and written discourse, with few errors in comprehension when reading, and demonstrate culturally appropriate behavior within the limitations of level 2 situations.

This class focuses on communication in French. To attain this goal, instruction and activities will presented and conducted primarily in French. This means that listening and responding are the two most important expectations of the student.

Spanish 1 is a communication-based language course that follows the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) Standards for Foreign Language and the State Foreign Language Framework. The course incorporates daily conversation, oral presentations, reading, writing and listening while incorporating the study of art, history, film, and literature in Spanish from Spain and Latin American countries. The course objective is to develop literacy and fluency in Spanish while learning about the Spanish-speaking world and its culture.
