Welcome to a brand new experience: Kindergarten! My name is Mrs. Havins. I will be your child’s teacher. I am very happy to welcome your child to my class and to Kendall Elementary. This year will be busy, productive and gratifying for all of us!
Kindergarten students will learn the letter names and sounds of the alphabet, as well as the names, quantities and sequence of numbers 0-30; they will learn to spell, read, and write many words; they will learn to correctly form letters and numbers; they will develop social skills. As they practice and apply their new skills, they will feel good about what they have accomplished! Learning, then, will not only be a “school thing”, but a lifelong focus.
All students are expected to be active, engaged and cooperative learners. It is important for your child to be
rested and ready to learn each day. A positive attitude and willingness to do his/her best each day is important for academic achievement and social development.
Homework is given each Monday and is to be returned on Friday. Your child is expected to complete the entire packet according to the directions. The primary objective for homework is for your child to review and practice concepts/skills that have been introduced in class, as well as to instill responsibility and independence. As your child completes the homework,
please look for errors. If the student makes any errors, please correct him/her immediately. Thank you.
The school bell rings at 8:45 a.m., and instruction begins promptly at 8:50 a.m. Please make sure that your child is on time. Please remain with your child until I open the door at 8:45 a.m. Our Kendall Staggered Session begins in September. Following an assessment meeting with parent/child/teacher, your child will be placed in either the Early Bird or Later Gator group. These groups have been designed to provide instruction at the child's level.
Daily attendance is requested. However, if your child is sick, please keep him/her at home. When a student is tardy or absent, he/she misses valuable instruction.
